CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Deadline for abstracts: June 1, 2019

The organizers of New Ways of Analyzing Variation (NWAV) 48, to be held at the University of Oregon, in Eugene, Oregon, announce the initial Call for Abstracts. Abstract submissions are invited for presentations (oral and poster) in all areas related to language variation and change.

Abstract submission will be begin April 1, 2019 and remain open until June 1, 2019. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words, excluding references, and must be anonymized to omit all information about the author(s). Abstracts will be submitted via EasyChair (submission site available starting April 1).

We also invite proposals for special sessions. Proposals for special sessions should also be no more than 500 words, excluding references, with separate abstracts for each paper to be considered for the session (following the guidelines outlined above).

Although we welcome submissions on all areas of language variation and change, for NWAV 48 we particularly welcome submissions for papers and for special sessions that align with the following special topic areas:

  • Variation and change in underdocumented speech communities
  • Acquisition of sociolinguistic variation
  • Sociolinguistics and the listener
  • Computational sociolinguistics

Authors may submit one single-authored and one joint-authored abstract, or two joint-authored abstracts. This limit applies to all presentations, regardless of type (paper, poster).

Deadline for workshop abstracts: May 1, 2019

We are also pleased to announce the Call for Workshop Proposals for New Ways of Analyzing Variation (NWAV) 48 in Eugene, Oregon. We invite submissions for workshops in all areas related to language variation and change, and we particularly welcome those that align with the special topic areas described in the call for abstracts, above.

Workshop proposals should be no more than 500 words, excluding references. They should clearly outline the focus of the workshop, its aims, and its format, and its preferred audience(s). If the workshop will include multiple presenters, please include a brief synopsis of each contribution.

All proposals for workshops should be submitted as .pdf files, sent directly to the conference email account: nwav48@gmail.com. The subject line should include the proposer’s last name and ‘Workshop Proposal for NWAV48’. Please also direct questions about workshops to nwav48@gmail.com.

 

Workshop proposal deadline is May 1, 2019.
